Coach Mike Tomlin was succinct in his assessment of the Steelers after their 9-3 loss to Buffalo Saturday night: “It was better in some areas but still JV in too many others.”
Russell Wilson and Justin Fields struggled to move the offense, which managed only one score, a game-tying 43-yard Chris Boswell field goal with three seconds left in the first half. The only other meaningful threat by the offense came when Fields led the Steelers to the Buffalo 9-yard line in the third quarter, but was stopped for a 7-yard loss on 4th-and-two. He also threw an incomplete pass on 4th down from the Buffalo 20 late in the game.
The Steelers will play their final preseason game next Saturday afternoon at Detroit.
