Indiana County Sheriff Bob Fyock is issuing a warning about a scam that is re-emerging in the area.
The sheriff’s office has received multiple calls from individuals saying that they were contacted by someone claiming to be Sgt. McCully from their office. The scammer uses one of a number of excuses for the call, including missing a court hearing, a warrant being issued, owing money or saying they have a civil document for them, then they are asked to send money.
The request for money in any form is the warning signal that this is a scam call, according to Fyock, and that legitimate law enforcement organizations will not contact individuals and request a payment. This includes payments through bitcoin, gift cards, or the use of third party websites.
