The United School District Superintendent announced on Tuesday that the district was approved for Community Eligibility Provisions that would make school breakfasts and lunches free for all students this school year.
This means that for those who buy standard lunches, there will be no negative balances for school meal accounts this year, which has been an issue in the upper grade levels. This will not clear out negative balances. Superintendent Dr. Richard Lucas said that this will be a big benefit to all district families.
Last year, the district was provided money to pay for breakfasts by the state, and the district has also received a breakfast expansion grant to allow for multiple locations at the high school. Parents must still need to submit applications for free lunches for the other financial and educational reasons.
Also last night, the board approved a general construction change order, two electrical change orders and three lighting and sound change orders for the renovation work going on in the district. That work is expected to be complete by the start of the school year.
