A man from Phoenix was sentenced to serve time in prison for his part in a drug ring that ran from Arizona to Ohio and Pennsylvania, including Indiana.
U.S. Attorney Eric G. Olshan announced yesterday that 22-year-old Jairo Morales was sentenced last Thursday to 15 years in prison and five years of supervised release for conspiracy to distribute and possession with the intent to distribute cocaine, fentanyl and methamphetamine along with conspiracy to money laundering. He was one of 35 individuals charged through a Second Superseding Indictment that was unsealed in January of this year for their part in a domestic and international drug and money laundering scheme. That followed indictments of 57 people in March of 2023 for alleged drug activity that went across the US and into Mexico as part of “Operation Lake Effect”. Morales worked with others to distribute 5 kilograms or more of cocaine, 400 grams or more of fentanyl, and 500 grams or more of meth.
The Court found that Morales was responsible for conspiring to distribute 7.48 kilograms of cocaine, 83 kilograms of fentanyl, and 72 kilograms of meth, and that Morales possessed firearms in connection with that drug trafficking activity.
