On Monday night, the Indiana School Board approved the lease with Merakey for space at Horace Mann Elementary School.
The company that provides services for students with special needs will take up space on the third floor of Horace Mann, including five classrooms and one office. There will be little to no interaction between Horace Mann’s and Merakey’s students. Superintendent Robert Heinrich said that he was excited to finalize the deal.
The board also approved new start times for the elementary levels. Grades K-3 will see the doors open at 8:35, with school starting 20 minutes later and dismissal at 3:35 PM. Grades 4-5 will have the doors open at 8:15 AM, with school starting at 8:30 and dismissal at 3:30. Also, it was announced that this year’s Fulbright international teachers will arrive at IUP this Wednesday and will start working with Indiana High Teachers starting August 20th.
