Mitch Keller struggled against a stout Dodgers lineup and the Pirates opened their West Coast trip with a 9-5 loss to Los Angeles.

Game two of the series is tonight. Paul Skenes pitches for the Pirates. He’s 6-1 with a 1.99 ERA. River Ryan, brother of Pirates’ farmhand Ryder Ryan, pitches for the Dodgers. He’s 1-0 with a 1.72 ERA. It’s a 8:45 airtime, 9:10 first pitch on WCCS.
Prior to yesterday’s game, the Pirates selected the contract of Domingo German from Triple-A Indianapolis. He made his debut last night and allowed two runs on one hit – a home run – in four innings of relief.
Hunter Stratton was optioned to make room on the active roster and Josh Walker, whom the Pirates acquired at the trade deadline from the Mets, was designated for assignment.

Pirates top prospect Bubba Chandler was terrific in his Triple-A debut last night, leading the way in the Indians’ 6-0 win over Nashville. Chandler allowed just two hits and a walk while fanning six hitters in seven innings, earning the win.
