The Steelers open their three-game preseason schedule tonight at Acrisure Stadium, hosting the Houston Texans. The team put in a light practice yesterday at St. Vincent College.
Safety Jalen Elliott was re-signed after being released before training camp started. He takes the roster spot of defensive back Nate Meadors, who was waived/injured.
With at least seven starters not suiting up tonight, coach Mike Tomlin has been preparing his younger players for the game with situational football.
Tomlin says he is not looking for spectacular plays tonight. He’d rather see the fundamentals.
The coach says some players step up unexpectedly in preseason games while others take a step back. He says every year, players make the team based on their “stadium” experiences.
