GOLF
The high school sports seasons tee off today with several boys golf teams in action. Indiana and West Shamokin both play in the Happy Valley Invitational at Penn State. Northern Cambria is in the BG/Park Hills Invitational in Altoona. And River Valley will host Greater Latrobe at Chestnut Ridge today.
VOLLEYBALL
Northern Cambria’s volleyball coach has gone public with her concerns after the school board did not approve her assistant coaches this week.
Alyssa Walters writes in a Facebook post that despite coaches being approved for other sports, her assistants, Jayce Fleming, Kim McCracken, and Joey Camut, were not hired, and there was no explanation by the board as to why. She says her preseason starts Monday and she has no assistant coaches.
Walters says she has sent multiple emails and made phone calls, and she has “nothing poor to say about the School board members that vetoed (her) coaches,” but she wants to know why – in her words – “these adults are seemingly trying to sabotage” what looks to be a promising season for her volleyball team.
