No injuries were reported in a garage fire in Cherryhill Township on Friday morning.
The initial call went out at 7:11 AM for a property near Cherryhill Township, with Cherryhill Township, Pine Township, Clymer, Spangler and Hope fire departments along with Black Lick EMS responding. Commodore and Nicktown fire departments were called in to assist at 7:28. Cherryhill Township fire chief Jody Rainey said that the reason for the large initial response was confusion over the location and the lack of information on how big the fire was.
Crews were able to keep the fire from spreading to the detached home, but the home’s siding took on some minor heat damage. The metal garage building was destroyed, along with everything inside it. Crews were on the scene for about two hours. Officials believe the fire was caused by a lightning strike.
