Indiana County’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped two-tenths of a percentage point over the month of June, according to the state Department of Labor and Industry.
The countywide rate decreased to 4.0 percent over the month of June. It’s also down two-tenths of a point from June 2023. Meanwhile, the state unemployment rate stayed at 3.4 percent and the national rate went up one-tenth of a point to 4.1 percent.
Across the region, Armstrong and Westmoreland County have the lowest rate at 3.3 percent, followed by Jefferson and Clearfield County at 3.8 percent, then Indiana and Cambria at 4.0. Forest County has the highest unemployment rate in the state at 5.3 percent, while Union County has the lowest at 2.7 percent.
Total non-farm jobs decreased by 1,100 over the month to 28,600 in June. There was a decline of 800 jobs in government and 200 jobs in leisure and hospitality, but that was due to summer break. Jobs in the other seven industry supersectors were essentially unchanged.
