The Marion Center School District is seeing some positive impacts from the state budget passed earlier this month, as noted at Monday’s combined school board meeting.
Business Manager Rick Martini said he was pleased to learn that the district will receive an estimated $160 million for basic education subsidies, as well as an additional $56,000 for special education subsidies. He said while they are only estimates, Marion Center would not have to use reserve funds if the estimates don’t change.
The final numbers are expected to be released at the end of August or September.
In other business, the board approved the second reading of the district’s electronic device policy, which specifies that students cannot have phones on their person while in class. A motion to amend the reading failed by a 5-to-4 vote. That would include language stating that cell phones must be turned off or put on airplane mode with sound off during class.
A motion to enact that policy will come at a future meeting.
