Brady Oaks threw five-and-two-thirds innings of one-hit baseball as the S.W. Jack Drillers blasted Wesleyville, 11-0, Saturday night for their second straight win at the PA Youth Legion Western Regional Tournament at First Commonwealth bank Field in Homer City.
Oaks struck out nine and did not give up a hit until the fifth inning. The lefty’s nine strikeouts all came in the final four innings as he mixed a crafty curveball with a sneaky fastball, changing speeds and keeping Wesleyville off-balance all night long.
At the plate, Oaks had a hit and walked three times, scoring two runs and stealing two bases. Gage Wingard drove in two runs with a single and a bases-loaded walk. Chase Force tripled and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Jamison Miller drove in three runs with a double to the fence in left-center field and a two-run single.
S.W. Jack qualifies for Monday’s action, when they will play in either the third-place game or the championship game.
In the other action on Saturday, Titusville scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings and beat St. Mary’s, 9-8, in nine innings. Monroeville beat Ligonier, 8-1.
The Sunday schedule begins at 1 PM with Wesleyville playing Ligonier, followed at 4 by Penn Trafford against Titusville. The nightcap has S.W. Jack taking on Monroeville at 7 PM. You can watch that game on Renda Digital TV.
