The PIAA has overturned the WPIAL’s denial of postseason eligibility for Knoch quarterback Colt Sprankle, who transferred from Armstrong after his family moved to Sarver. Knoch is on the Indiana High football schedule on September 27th. Indiana is not scheduled to play Armstrong this season.
The Board of Directors also approved tweaks to the competitive balance rules. One of the biggest changes is the removal of language that prohibited the consideration of health and safety as grounds for an appeal of a school’s placement. The changes must pass twice more before taking effect.
Also yesterday, the PIAA Board approved the expansion of girls’ volleyball from four classes to six but rejected a committee recommendation and decided to keep track & field at two classifications instead of three. Expansion of the volleyball would have to pass the Board’s vote two more times in order to take effect. It’s being targeted for the 2026-27 school year.
The creation of girls’ flag football as an officially sanctioned PIAA sport received unanimous approval on the second reading. It has to pass once more before taking effect.
