Pitt Basketball coach Jeff Capel has a new three-year contract extension. Athletic Director Heather Lyke announced the deal yesterday. Terms were not released. It runs through the 2029-30 season.
Capel arrived at Pitt in 2018 and has three years left on his current contract. He is 97-92 and has won 46 games the last two seasons. He was the 2023 ACC Coach of the Year and was a finalist for National Coach of the Year.
Capel has done major rebuilds of the Panthers’ roster in recent seasons. This year he will have to replace several players, including NBA first-round draft choice Bub Carrington and flashy scorer Blake Hinson. He has brought in transfers Damian Dunn from Houston and Cameron Corhen from Florida State and freshmen Brandin Cummings, Amdy Ndiaye and Amsal Delalic to complement returning players Ishmael Leggett, Jaland Lowe, Zack Austin and the Diaz Graham twins, Guillermo and Jorge.
