It may be just a bargaining tactic, but NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo says 49ers All-Pro wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has officially requested a trade after unsuccessfully seeking to renegotiate his contract. Garafolo writes on his X account that the 49ers have been unwilling to engage in talks since May, so Aiyuk “has respectfully asked out.”
Aiyuk has previously said the Washington Commanders and the Steelers are two teams he could see himself playing for in 2024.
On another Steelers note, ESPN reports that a poll of NFL executives, coaches, and scouts ranks new Steeler Patrick Queen as the fourth-best inside linebacker in the league, behind the 49ers’ Fred Warner, the Ravens’ Roquan Smith, and the Bills’ Matt Milano.
Training camp in Latrobe opens with players reporting a week from today and the first practice on Thursday.
