Former NFL wide receiver and kick returner Jacoby Jones has died at age 40. He played nine seasons in the NFL and set the record for the longest touchdown in Super Bowl history with a 108-yard score on a kickoff return for the Ravens in their win over the 49ers in Super Bowl 47. Jones played for the Texans, Ravens, and Chargers before ending his career with a four-game stint with the Steelers in 2015.
One of his most memorable plays was for the Ravens on Thanksgiving Day 2013 when he returned a kick 73 yards but did not score after Steelers coach Mike Tomlin strayed onto the field watching the play on the stadium scoreboard, barely avoiding a collision and forcing Jones to swerve out of the way.
Jones’s cause of death was not revealed.
