There is plenty of road work going on in Indiana County, even with delays in a couple of projects already underway and in spite of the continued hot summer weather. PennDOT announced last week that the setting of a box culvert over Marsh Run in the Wayne Avenue/Carter Avenue construction area would be postponed until later in the month, and it had previously announced a delay for the resurfacing project involving the Army Specialist Christine L. Mays Bridge on Richmond Road near Rochester Mills in Grant Township, also until mid-to-late July.
Work continues on Route 85 from Home to Plumville in South Mahoning Township, where crews in the last week have been patching and paving long stretches of the six-mile highway, with minimal traffic disruption.
Tomorrow, PennDOT’s virtual plans display for the Bridges to Nowhere preservation project goes online. That involves bridges over Old Route 119, Stoney Run, the Hoodlebug Trail, and the Buffalo & Pittsburgh Railroad in White Township. The virtual display will reveal preliminary information on the project’s status, schedule, design, and right-of-way acquisition. Construction is anticipated for the 2027 or 2028 season.
HOW TO ACCESS THE PLANS DISPLAY:
An online presentation of the project has been posted which outlines and explains the proposed plans and schedule for this project. To access the webpage visit www.PennDOT.gov/District10 click on the Public Meetings link under the District Links heading, pick the Indiana County box, and then choose the Bridges to Nowhere tile. The presentation will be available from July 15 through 29, 2024.
Some off-the-road work continues at the White Township Recreation Complex, where last week township crews began a drainage improvement project. A series of “rain garden” islands is being built surrounding the draining inlets that separate the two rows of parking spaces outside the S&T Bank Arena. Storm and snowmelt drainage will collect in the islands with wildflower and vegetation beds to improve the aesthetic.
