Metro Smiley, 77 of Indiana, PA., passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2024, at Beacon Ridge, Indiana.
He was the son of Joseph and Mary (Susick) Smiley, born November 5, 1946, in Commodore, PA.
Metro was a graduate of Punxsutawney High School. After high school, he joined the Army and was stationed in Germany. In 1977 he opened Smiley’s Furniture Gallery in Indiana, PA, and he retired from First Commonwealth Bank in 2014. Metro was a member of St. Bernard of Clairvaux Roman Catholic Church, he was also a member of the American Legion Post #141, the Elks Lodge #941, the Indiana Round Ball Club, and the American Legion Baseball Coach and Commissioner. Metro loved polka dancing with his wife and listening to polkas every Sunday, watching high school football and basketball games, he lived for family gatherings.
He is survived by four children: Stephen Smiley (Clymer PA); Kristeen Kratz (Indiana PA), Melissa (Orlando) Pigna (Hanover PA); Jon (fiancée Lisa) Smiley (Greensburg PA).
Five grandchildren: Vincent and Michael Pigna; and Jeremy (Laurie), Joshua, and Jerad Peles
One brother – Joseph (Janet) Smiley, one sister – Nancy (Mark) Rinehart.
Metro is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Bernadette (Sunderland) Smiley whom he married on June 28, 1969, three brothers – James, John, Thomas Smiley.
Friends will be received on Monday, July 8, 2024, from 3 pm to 7 pm at the McCabe~Roof Funeral Home, 565 Franklin St. Clymer PA. Additional visitation will be held on Tuesday, from 9 am until his Funeral Mass at 10 am in the Narthex of St. Bernard’s of Clairvaux Roman Catholic Church, Indiana with Fr. Richard N. Owens, Celebrant. Interment will be in St. Bernard’s cemetery with military honors provided by Indiana VFW post 1989.
