We have further information on a story that we covered earlier this week concerning the negotiations between the Penns Manor School District and the union representing its support staff.
Jill Eckenrode, the Penns Manor School Board negotiations committee chairperson, said that wages were the biggest stumbling block of the current negotiations. She added that there was an early bird contract offer made in July of last year that would have, in her words, placed the district’s support staff in the top two wage tiers in the area when it came to starting wages. That early bird contract was rejected by the union.
She also mentioned that health care costs were another issue in the negotiation sessions, as health care costs for the district increased significantly over the last four years.
Negotiations are set to continue between the district and the union on July 16th.
