The Pirates and Cardinals battled into extra innings last night before Bryan Reynolds and Oneil Cruz saved the day. Joe Block recaps the win for the Bucs.
The Pirates took a 3-1 lead off Miles Mikolas. Manager Derek Shelton says that was not easy to do.
Starter Jared Jones left the game after 5 innings due to lat muscle tightness. He said he’s not concerned about it. He was terrific through those 5 innings, striking out five after some first inning wildness.
Jones says catcher Joey Bart calmed him down after his control issues.
Rowdy Tellez had another great night, going 3-for-4 with a solo home run and a great diving stop of a 9th inning grounder that he turned into an out. He says it was a great team win for the Bucs.
The Pirates go for the series win this afternoon at PNC Park. Martín Perez (1-4, 5.28 ERA) faces the Cards’ Andre Pallante (4-3, 4.50 ERA). The pregame airs at 12:10, with first pitch at 12:35 on WCCS.
