Negotiations are set to continue between the Penns Manor School Board and the union representing the district’s support staff.
At last night’s committee meeting, the board was reminded that the next negotiation session with the Penns Manor Educational Support Professionals will be July 16th. After the meeting, negotiations chairperson Jill Eckenrode said the district is also trying to stay within the budget set down last month and keep the district’s taxpayers in mind as well. She said one of the major stumbling blocks has been health care costs.
Eckenrode said that another stumbling block has been wages going up.
Earlier this month, the union issued a statement saying that an agreement on a new contract had not been reached. The union supports the cleaning and maintenance staff, secretaries, instructional assistants, cafeteria staff and monitors, and nurses’ assistants.
