BASEBALL
Congratulations to Indiana High School’s Ben Ryan, who yesterday was named first-team Class 4A All-State. The Quinnipiac recruit hit .452 with 10 home runs, 9 doubles, a triple, and 32 RBIs this year while going 3-1 with one save and a 1.00 ERA on the mound.
Ryan’s teammate, pitcher Greg Minnick, made second-team All-State. Minnick was 4-0 with a 2.06 ERA in eleven appearances this season for the state runner-up Little Indians.
United outfielder Isaac Worthington and Northern Cambria outfielder Shaun Gisler both made first-team Class 2A. Worthington hit .449 with 4 home runs, 5 doubles, a triple, and 30 RBIs this year. Gisler batted .575 with seven doubles and two triples, and 13 RBIs.
Penns Manor outfielder Carter Smith made first-team Class A, after hitting .500 with five homers, 13 doubles, and 2 triples, along with 14 RBIs.
VOLLEYBALL
The WPIAL has announced the Section realignments for the upcoming girl’s volleyball season. Indiana, Franklin Regional, and Greensburg Salem remain in 3A Section 5, with three teams – Gateway, McKeesport, and West Mifflin – moving in from Section 1, and Derry Area moving in from Section 2.
Class 3A is down from 36 teams to 33 this year.
