YOUTH LEGION
Homer City Post 493 scored two runs in the first inning, then steadily pulled away from Armstrong for a 10-1 win to advance to the semifinals of the Indiana County Youth Legion playoffs. They will face top seed S.W. Jack in a three-game series, starting tonight.
In a game moved to Homer City because Armstrong’s field was unavailable, Louie Rodman’s 2-run double in the first staked Homer City to a 2-0 lead in the first, and they added two more in the 4th on an error and Eli Turk’s run-scoring single. Leading 4-1 in the 6th, Post 493 broke open the game with six runs on three hits and four walks. Hayden Haight drew a bases-loaded walk to force in a run, then another run scored on a wild pitch, then after another walk, a third run came in on another bases loaded walk. That was followed by Eric Dinger’s RBI single and an RBI fielder’s choice groundout by Dom Shimko.
Shimko threw six innings and gave up a single run while striking out five. Zeke Doak pitched the final inning. Dinger, Turk, Rodman, and Haight all had two hits in the game. The best-of-three semifinal starts at 6 o’clock tonight with Homer City at S.W. Jack.
Marion Center combined six hits with eight Brookville errors and some indecision by the Firemen’s Club’s fielders to win their game, 12-3. MC put up two runs in the first and fourth innings, led 4-3 in the fifth when they scored three more, and put it away with five runs in the sixth. They also pulled off a slick double play in the third inning when centerfielder Tyler Phillips caught a bases loaded line drive and doubled off the runner at second base.
Trent Slovinsky doubled for MC and Troy Slovinsky hit a solo home run. Jaxson Davis had two hits, and Marion Center split the pitching among four hurlers, with starter Cole Adamson picking up the win, and Davis, Tyler Mellott, and Mason Flugga relieving to save pitches with the best-of-three semifinal series coming.
Marion Center will play Mahoning Valley in the semifinal series, starting tonight at 6 in Punxsutawney.
