Last night was a historic debate for the 2024 election as the current president faced a challenger that used to hold office before him. Local political party leaders also were watching the debate like much of America last night and shared their opinions with us.
Indiana County Republican Party vice-chairman Ted Predko said that he felt Trump’s strongest point was on the economy.
Indiana County Democratic Party Chair James Smith said that President Biden’s strongest topic was his response to questions about his term so far in office.
As far as who won the debate, both sides believed their candidate won, with Predko saying that Biden’s performance reminded him of how Richard Nixon performed in the first-ever televised debate against John F. Kennedy.
Smith said that Biden’s record in office should speak for itself.
Last night was the first of two scheduled debates between the candidates. The next is set for September 10th.
