The Florida Panthers are the 2024 Stanley Cup champions. They took down the Edmonton Oilers 2-1 in Game Seven at Sunrise, Florida. Carter Verhaeghe scored early in the first period, and after the Oilers’ Mattias Janmark tied it minutes later, Sam Reinhart’s goal late in the second period ended up being the game-winner. Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 22 of 23 shots on goal and the Panthers’ repeatedly iced the puck to frustrate the high-scoring Oilers.
Edmonton’s Connor McDavid was named the winner of the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player in the playoffs. He’s the sixth player from a losing team to win the trophy and the first since the Flyers’ Reggie Leach won it in 1976.
