At Monday night’s meeting, the Indiana School Board approved the 2024-25 budget, and the impact of property taxes will not as hard as what was originally proposed.
By a 7-2 vote, the board approved the $65,400,076 budget, with using some of their reserves and increasing taxes to 16.53 mills, a slight reduction from the 16.73 mill level originally proposed. It still represents a 5.5% increase in taxes. Dr. Jim Shaffer and Quintina Thomas voted against the budget. Some people during public comment called the issue of high teacher salaries, but Superintendent Robert Heinrich said that salaries and benefits are always looked at come budget time.
Board vice president Julia Trimarchi-Cuccaro, who is also the chair of the Audit and Finance Commitee, said it was a tough budget to put together, and cited three main reasons for the increases in the budget.
The board also approved three change orders for the Eisenhower project. One is a credit of $2890 to delete a transformer pad, the second was an expenditure of $8,275 to install a sump pit and piping and the third is $3,373.97 to furnish and install two additional floor sinks and waste piping in the kitchen area.
