It was a quiet Saturday for Indiana County’s first responders. Indiana firefighters were dispatched for a physical rescue on Quincy Circle in White Township shortly before noon, and then just before midnight, they were sent to a brush fire along Campbell Lane, also in White Township.
Road and bridge resurfacing continues this week on the Twolick Dip on South 6th Street in White Township, with the work scheduled to wrap up by the end of the month, which is next Sunday. The project covers Route 954 from Risinger Road to Lower Twolick Drive, with multiple lane shifts and single-lane traffic controlled by temporary signals.
That project is one of several in White Township right now. Ferrier Run Road will be closed tomorrow from 8 Am until around 1 PM for cross pipe repair. The work area is about 300 feet from the Metz Road intersection.
The township reports that the traffic signal contractor has completed the new sidewalks and curbs and has activated the pedestrian-controlled crossing signals at the Ben Franklin Road South/Warren Road/Indian Springs Road intersection. Crosswalk lines and markings are the next step.
Later this week PennDOT will be resurfacing a portion of Richmond Road near Rochester Mills in Grant Township. The project will be on the Army SPC Christine L. Mays Bridge, which will close on Friday and remain out of service through Monday, with the possibility that the work will continue into next week with daytime traffic control by flaggers. The detour will use East Creek Road, Smithport Road, Logan Road, Gipsy Road, and Nashville Road. It’s a $493,561 project scheduled for completion in September.
WESTMORELAND COUNTY
A circuitous detour will take effect tomorrow in Westmoreland County as a bridge project gets underway on Route 711 in the vicinity of the former Laurel Valley High School south of New Florence. The detour will begin on the south side of the project in Fairfield Township where Creek Road joins 711 at the Mirror Lake campground. On the north side, it will begin at 711 and Clark Hollow Road in Saint Clair Township.
There are a number of options on both sides of the cutoff, depending on where you are headed. Drivers will be routed through New Florence, Seward, Robinson, and Bolivar using various roads, including Mulligan Hill, the “Seward Stretch” (Route 711), and Route 259. Truck traffic coming out of Ligonier will be diverted onto Route 271 toward Johnstown.
