On top of the excessive heat, it may be tough for some sensitive populations to take a breath today.
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection announced late yesterday that a Code Orange Air Quality Action Alert would be in effect until 4:00 this afternoon. The Code Orange alert means that air pollution concentrations in the region may be unhealthy for some groups of people, including the very young, the elderly, and those suffering from asthma, heart disease or other lung diseases.
The effects of air pollution can be minimized by avoiding vigorous outdoor exercise or activity. For more information on ground-level ozone and fine particles, you can log on to Airnow.gov
