Indiana County, along with a large portion of the Eastern U.S. will experience a heat wave this week.
Accuweather’s Dan Pydynowski said that a large area of high pressure will build over the eastern third of the U.S. through the week, and that will cause temperatures to exceed the 90 degree mark for highs, but heat indices will also head upwards as well, putting a feel-like temperature into triple digits.
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory that will start today and run through 8:00 Friday night. The National weather service advises people to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned areas and out of the sun, and to check on elderly neighbors and relatives. If you have to work outside, wear loose, light-colored lightweight clothes and limit strenuous activity to the morning or evening.
To reduce heat stroke or heat exhaustion at outdoor work, OSHA recommends taking frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Also, people should act when symptoms of heat stroke or heat exhaustion come up by calling 911, and those affected should be moved to an air-conditioned or shaded area.
