Indiana High’s Ben Ryan received high honors from the Pittsburgh Union Progress following a standout senior season on the baseball diamond.
Ryan was named “Most Feared Slugger” in the WPIAL after leading the league with 10 home runs, two of which came in the PIAA 4A championship against Holy Ghost Prep on Thursday. Other notable blasts came in the WPIAL 4A semifinals against Montour and the WPIAL Championship game against North Catholic.
Ryan hit .431 for the Indians this season and reached base more than 56 percent of the time. On the mound, he carried a 3-1 record with a 0.55 ERA in 25.2 innings pitched.
Coach Dan Petroff was also named a finalist for Coach of the Year along with Avonworth’s Jeff Bywalski and Penn-Trafford’s Lou Cortazzo. He led the Indians to a 16-10 record and appearances in the WPIAL and PIAA championship games in his first season.
