Manager Derek Shelton says Mitch Keller didn’t quite have it.
Shelton says despite Keller’s struggles, he still kept them in the game.

Shelton says Santana looked comfortable in his Pirates’ debut.
The Pirates have some real concerns about their pitching staff. Santana was activated yesterday and Ryder Ryan was returned to Indianapolis for the fourth time, but with Stratton hurt, Ryan could be coming right back. Shelton said Stratton will be monitored after his shoulder tightened up.
The Pirates traded reliever Jose Hernandez back to the Dodgers yesterday for cash. He was a Rule 5 pickup from LA last season for the Bucs.
