Members of the community gathered at the KCAC Wednesday afternoon for an informational discussion hosted by the Indiana County Commissioners, Indiana County Center for Economic Development and the Southwest Pennsylvania Commission.
The nearly three-hour discussion allowed Indiana County residents to meet with members of the Interagency Working Group (IWG) and its newest partners, and present their concerns resulting from the closure of the Homer City Generating Station. Some concerns that were brought up featured tax credits and loan guarantees in the energy sector, restoring blighted land across the county, poverty levels, entrepreneurship, and financial repercussions for the Homer-Center School District.
Byron Stauffer led the open discussion and he said it helped residents connect with state officials to obtain federal funding for several projects.
Terri Dean with the Environmental Protection Agency was among those on the panel and she said she’s eager to take the county’s needs to the state and local governments.
Dean also detailed what the next step is in the process.
She adds that there will be a convening of counties in southwestern PA to merge ideas and bring them to the state Department of Economic Development. Residents can still voice their concerns by clicking here.
