Citizens’ Ambulance Service is changing its business model, announcing that it will acquire Ambulance Service Management Corporation and its associated contracts. ASMC is the company that manages Citizens’, and the move approved by Citizens’ Executive Board will enable the service to “move forward with a not for profit operating model”, according to a news release.
Citizens says it must “streamline operations, (and) identify and secure funding from a myriad of agencies…to be successful in the future.” It says it can no longer stay afloat relying on memberships, donations, and grants.
Negotiations are underway with ASMC to ensure a smooth transition, which could take several months.
On Indiana in the Morning this morning, Sandi Gillette says this move is a proactive one for Citizens’ and she detailed what’s next.
Citizens’ board president Bill Simmons is hopeful this move will boost legislative reform in Pennsylvania.
Member Dewayne Dills is also hopeful this move sparks government action.
Rob Walbeck will head the transition team for the merger. The move is not expected to affect any employees’ jobs or the operations of Citizens’ Ambulance.
