Jake Black tossed eight shutout innings against Point Loma, helping IUP stay alive in the Division II College World Series with a 1-0 win.
Black allowed two hits and struck out four in the outing while Bryce Devan continued his prolific postseason with a one-hit frame in the ninth. The only run came off the bat of Elijah Dunn, who singled home Ricardo Aponte in the first inning.
Point Loma had the tying run at first in the bottom of the eighth but Harrison Pontoli thwarted the rally with a diving catch to end the frame.
IUP will move on to Thursday’s semifinal game against defending champion Angelo State at 1:30.
We will have comments from Coach Steve Kline and the Crimson Hawks once audio is made available.
