The Indiana County Sheriff’s office has announced that another phone scam is making its way around the county.
This one has the caller claiming that they are a Sheriff’s Deputy, and their voicemail says that while it isn’t an emergency, it is urgent for you to call them back on their non-emergency line. What follows is a recording submitted to the sheriff’s office. We received permission from the office to post this soundbite, and we have removed the name of the victim and the phone number of the scammer.
The Sheriff’s office is reminding everyone that they will never send you a text message to inform that someone has a warrant, missed jury duty or use an app to pay fines. Also, any voicemails that are left will have the official office number, (724) 465-3930. The scammer asks that the victim call their personal phone number, which also has the voicemail set up to present him as a sheriff’s deputy.
