Coach Dan Petroff and his Indiana High baseball team open up their state playoff run this afternoon and their first test will be overcoming District 6 champion Bellefonte on the road.
Both teams met in last year’s PIAA quarterfinal round at Mt. Aloysius in Cresson with the Raiders claiming an 11-5 win and ending the Indians’ season. Bellefonte is 19-2 overall and finished 13-2 in the Laurel Highlands-East conference. Indiana is the runner-up in the WPIAL and boasts a record of 13-9 overall.
It’s the second straight year Indiana has made the state tournament. Last year, the Indians won their opening round game against East Pennsboro, then suffered the aforementioned loss to Bellefonte in the quarterfinal round.
Petroff said his team is ready to avenge Wednesday’s loss and take down Bellefonte in the opening round of the Class 4A tournament.
Petroff said Bellefonte’s offense is similar to North Catholic’s, meaning there are no weak spots up and down their lineup.
Petroff adds that all options are on the table for his team when it comes to pitching.
The winner of the Indiana/Bellefonte game will move on to play the winner of East Pennsboro and Thomas Jefferson on Thursday.
You can watch tonight’s game on Renda Digital TV, presented by Mark Arbuckle Nissan and by Thomas R. Harley Architects. Airtime is 3:40 with first pitch from Governor’s Park slated for 4.
