A woman from East Wheatfield Township will serve time in state prison for a fatal collision in New Florence last year.
53-year-old Melissa Ann Anderson entered guilty pleas on Tuesday to charges of accidents involving death, DUI and reckless driving in connection with the hit-and-run death of 61-year-old Barry Cassidy of New Florence. State police at the time said that Cassidy was killed along 13th Street around 9:15 PM on May 13th. A passenger in Anderson’s pickup truck said they heard a loud noise that came from the passenger side windshield area, and while Anderson initially stopped, she continued on and dropped the passenger off at his home. Anderson was found in her home, and found the damaged pickup. Police also said she admitted to using heroin before getting behind the wheel.
As part of the plea deal, a charge of homicide by vehicle while DUI was dismissed. Anderson will serve three to ten years in state prison, but was given credit for time already served.
