Last night’s game between the Pirates and Tigers was postponed due to inclement weather in Detroit. As a result, both teams will play a traditional doubleheader this afternoon at Comerica Park.
Jared Jones starts for the Pirates in game one while Tarik Skubal starts for the Tigers. Jones is 3-4 with a 3.05 ERA, while Skubal is 6-1 with a 2.25 ERA. Paul Skenes will start for the Bucs in game two. He is 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA. The Tigers have not announced their starter.
Prior to yesterday’s game, the Pirates activated Ke’Bryan Hayes from the injured list and selected the contract of catcher Grant Koch from the taxi squad. Koch was a 5th-round pick in the 2018 MLB Draft and hit .203 in six seasons in the organization. Manager Derek Shelton said yesterday that Koch will catch in one of today’s games. He was originally supposed to catch today’s finale.
To make room on the active roster, Martin Perez was placed on the 15-day injured list and catcher Joey Bart was put on the 10-day injured list for ailments suffered in Sunday’s game against Atlanta. Both are retroactive to May 27.
