The Steelers wrapped up the first week of OTAs yesterday at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex. They’ll return for three more days starting on Tuesday and then close with the final four sessions June 3rd through the 6th.
One of the most noticeable players at the OTAs has been cornerback Joey Porter Jr., who has added about five pounds of muscle in the offseason, by his estimation.
Porter says he has simple goals in mind for his second season.
One of the big plays yesterday happened when newcomer Quez Watkins beat Porter for a long pass completion from Russell Wilson. Watkins is one of a host of wide receivers hoping to complement George Pickens, along with Van Jefferson, Scotty Miller, and third round draft pick Roman Wilson.
Scotty Miller spent last season in Atlanta working under new Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith. Before that, he played for Tampa Bay during the Tom Brady years. He looking forward to working with Russell Wilson and Justin Fields with the Steelers.
The Steelers yesterday signed veteran free agent running back La’Mical Perine, who was released by the Chiefs last week. He was originally a fourth round draft pick by the Jets in 2020 and has played 17 NFL regular season games, plus three Kansas City playoff games last season.
