SOFTBALL
Marion Center and West Shamokin put on a classic yesterday in the District 6 Double-A semifinals, and West Shamokin came through in the 10th inning. Jake Slebodnick had the recap.
The Wolves will move on to the District 6 Championship Game next Thursday against the winner of tomorrow’s game between top seed Bald Eagle Area and number five Penns Valley.
BASEBALL
The four teams playing the District 6 Double-A baseball semifinals today all feature solid pitching and all of them should have their full complement of arms available, since they last played a week ago.
Second seeded Homer-Center takes on number three West Branch at First Commonwealth Bank Field in Homer City. The Wildcats are coming off a 6-2 win over Northern Cambria in the quarterfinals, led by the pitching of Owen Saiani and Caleb Palmer. The Warriors shut out United, 3-0 in the quarters in a complete game by Luke Liptak.
Coach Scott Bauer says Homer-Center has been working all season to achieve certain milestones…winning the Heritage Conference championship, making it to the District 6 tournament, and this afternoon they hope to make it to the District 6 championship game and guarantee themselves a spot the state tournament.
This afternoon’s game is on Renda Digital TV, presented by Robindale Energy. The pregame begins at 2:45, with first pitch scheduled for 3 o’clock.
