UPDATE:
Westmoreland County Coroner Tim Carson has confirmed the identity of the person who died in a house fire in Bolivar today.
The victim was 84-year-old Joanna Policichio, who lived in the house in the 800 block of McKinley Street that caught fire around 1:30 this morning. Firefighters were on the scene for four and a half hours putting the fire out and cleaning the scene. Policichio’s husband, who was not identified in the reports, was burned in the fire and was flown from the scene to UPMC Mercy Hospital for treatment. He is currently in serious condition.
No word yet on the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage. State Police fire marshals have been called in to investigate.
WHAT WE PREVIOUSLY REPORTED:
One person is dead and another person was burned in a fire in Bolivar early this morning.
Westmoreland County dispatchers said that the fire broke out along McKinley Street around 1:30 this morning. One person was confirmed dead, but their identity has not been released by the Westmoreland County Coroner’s office. The second victim was flown to a nearby hospital for treatment. The extent of the second victim’s injuries is not known at this time.
State police fire marshals are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
