Last night, the Indiana School Board approved advertising the 2024-25 preliminary budget, which contains a 6.8% tax increase.
In a statement, District Superintendent Robert Heinrich said that the actual impact on the average homeowner would come out to an extra $10.78 a month, and he stated that business owners would bear a heavier load for the budget. But some board members wanted to see a lower increase of 4.5%, which failed to pass. Julia Trimarchi-Cuccaro said that she felt that the higher rate would definitely be a shock to some district residents, and detrimental to those on a limited income.
Board president Walter Schroth reminded everyone that this is not the final draft.
The vote was 5-4 with Trimarchi-Cuccaro, Tom Harley, Quintina Thomas and Jim Shaffer voting against it. It will go up for final approval on June 24th.
