Amidst some rain showers, the Homer-Center Wildcats pulled off the win over the Colts of Northern Cambria 6-2 yesterday at First Commonwealth Bank Field in Homer City in the PIAA District 6 AA quarterfinals.
Homer-Center posted three runs in the first inning thanks to a double by Braden Dunn that drove in two runs. Caleb Palmer had an RBI groundout single to give the Wildcats a 3-0 lead. The Colts then took advantage of wild pitches to score their two runs, but in the bottom half of the sixth, Owen Sciani drove in one run, and Dunn drove in another two runs on a single. On the mound, Sciani went five innings for the win, giving up two runs, and Caleb Palmer threw the final two innings, retiring the side in order.
Meanwhile, United lost to West Branch 3-0 in the other quarterfinal match. Luke Liptak struck out seven batters for West Branch, allowing only four hits, needing only 94 pitches to finish the job. United’s James Kordish had a double, while Evan Thomas, Travis Timko and Dimitri Worthington had singles.
West Branch and Homer Center will play next Thursday at First Commonwealth Bank Field, and there is the possibility the game will be played in the early afternoon due to ICTC graduation.
In Triple-A Baseball, River Valley was routed by Central Cambria 10-0. Stats were not sent for that game.
