A man charged with leading police on a chase was ordered to serve probation and house arrest yesterday in Indiana County Court.
56-year-old John Rittenhouse of Smicksburg pleaded guilty to charges of driving under the influence and fleeing or eluding police, while other counts connected with the chase on August 13th were not prosecuted. State police tried to pull him over near the intersection of Route 210 and Sawmill Road in North Mahoning Township when he fled. Police caught up with him after he crashed his truck at the intersection of 210 and McCormick Road. For the DUI charge, he was ordered to serve six months of probation, including 20 days of house arrest. He was also ordered to serve three years of probation, including six months of house arrest for the fleeing charge. County Judge Michael Clark ordered the sentences to run concurrently.
Also in court yesterday, 39-year-old Alex Spangler of Shelocta was sentenced to up to five years in state prison for charges of DUI, aggravated assault, and driving on a DUI-suspended license.
