UPDATE:
Fire crews were called out for a flash fire that happened in Green Township last night.
According to Commodore fire officials, they were dispatched at 6:19 PM along with Clymer, Pine Township and the RIT Team from the Hope fire department for the possible structure fire as a result of an overturned gas can and an “explosion” as it was initially described. Crews found heavy smoke when they arrived but no fire. The basement had the most damage reported from the flash fire, which was caused when fumes from the spilled gas can were ignited by a natural gas burner on a hot water heater.
The rest of the building had smoke damage, but the damage to the structure could have been worse. Officials said that because the resident had closed the outside doors and the doors to the basement, that prevented the fire from spreading.
One person was hurt and was airlifted from the scene by a helicopter. That landing zone was set up by Cherryhill Township fire crews on Route 403 North.
WHAT WAS PREVIOUSLY REPORTED
Only three calls for service were reported for Indiana County first responders on Friday, but one of those was for a reported structure fire.
That fire was on Laurel Road in Green Township at 6:19 PM. It brought out Commodore and Pine Township fire departments along with the Cambria RIT team, and Citizens Ambulance. Details on the fire have not been released as of yet.
The other incidents were a call for Cherryhill Township Volunteer Fire Department to set up a landing zone along Route 403 North in Cherryhill Township at 6:24 PM, and a carbon monoxide alarm for a location along Hutchinson Hollow Road in East Wheatfield Township at 9:22 PM that brought out Armagh firefighters.
