Penguins coach Mike Sullivan said in his final media session last month that Kris Letang would probably have some surgery after the veteran defenseman fought through injuries at season’s end.
General manager Kyle Dubas announced yesterday that Letang had surgery on a fractured finger on his left hand last Friday, and that forward Matt Nieto had surgery on his left knee on May 2nd, and defenseman John Ludvig had left wrist surgery on April 24th.
Letang is expected to be fully recovered in eight weeks, Ludvig in four to six months.
Nieto played in only 22 games with one goal before injuring his right knee in a game November 30th. He had laparoscopic surgery but suffered several setbacks during rehab and never played again. Now, he has had reconstructive surgery on the MCL in his left knee and will miss six to eight months.
