BASEBALL
In the WPIAL 4A playoffs, number nine seed Indiana went on the road and knocked off number eight Central Valley, 4-1. Greg Minnick threw five scoreless innings and struck out 12 and Ben Ryan worked the final two innings, fanning three. Ryan and Mark Collinger both doubled and drove in runs and Andrew McGee drove in two.
Indiana will play number sixteen seed Blackhawk on Monday after Blackhawk upset top seed Belle Vernon, 7-3.
SOFTBALL
Third seed Indiana lost their playoff game to number 11 Blackhawk, 5-3. Haley Hamilton, Ella Myers, and Maggie Cunningham all had two hits for Indiana. Indiana had a 3-0 lead after 3 innings, but Blackhawk tied the game with 3 in the 4th, then scored single runs in the 6th and 7th. Mia Yenges hit a home run and drove in two runs for Blackhawk.
BOYS LACROSSE
Bryce Watkins and Owen Makar each scored three goals, and Watkins had the game-winner, as number 2 South Fayette edged number 7 Indiana, 9-8.
PIAA
The PIAA has approved new four-year deals to return to the Giant Center in Hershey for the basketball and wrestling state championships and to Bucknell University for the swimming & diving championships.
The PIAA also unanimously approved the first reading of a proposal to make girls flag football a fully sanctioned sport. With the support of the Steelers, Eagles, and NFL, there are now 103 schools in the state offering girls flag football as a club sport. 65 of them are in the eastern half of the state, 36 in the west.
