A bill that passed the PA Senate this week would establish a sexual assault evidence tracking system.
Senate Bill 920 was approved unanimously by the senate in a vote held earlier this week, Sexual assault forensic exams usually use items that are commonly called rape kits, which are used to collect DNA evidence from the victim’s body, clothes and other personal belongings. The process calls for establishing the system to track those kits through the collection and testing process.
Currently, 32 states and the District of Columbia have tracking systems in place. Along with the rape kit tracking systems, the state would receive additional federal funds.
The bill is slated to go to the PA House in the future.
