The University of Pittsburgh has announced its 2024 Athletics Hall of Fame Class, and the roster is loaded with legends, none bigger than the broadcasting tandem of Bill Hillgrove and Dick Groat. Hillgrove has called basketball games for Pitt since 1969. He joined the football broadcast team as a color analyst in 1970 and became the play-by-play man in 1974. He teamed with Groat on basketball broadcasts from 1979 to 2019.
Other Pitt Athletics Hall of Fame inductees this year will include NFL Hall of Fame cornerback Darrelle Revis, football’s Al Romano and George McLaren, men’s basketball’s DeJuan Blair, women’s basketball’s Brianna Kiesel, women’s swimmer Amy Jackson, women’s soccer’s Jamie Pelusi, and track & field coach Steve Lewis.
Groat, McLaren, and Lewis will all be inducted posthumously. The Hall of Fame introduction will be September 14th before the West Virginia football game.
