A Johnstown man was killed in a motorcycle crash in Derry Township on Monday.
State police say the crash happened at 1:41 in the afternoon along Route 30. Westmoreland County Coroner Tim Carson said the victim, 39-year-old Shawn Michael Pynos, was driving his Yamaha motorcycle when it went off the left side of the road and went into a gravel area. After hitting an embankment, the bike went airborne and Pynos was thrown from the motorcycle.
State police say that speed was a factor in the crash. While significant head injuries were reported, a helmet was being used by Pynos. Coroner Carson ruled the death accidental due to blunt force trauma.
